Robert B. Reid joined the company in 1972 after serving as
pilot in the US Navy for 5 years. His initial job with the
company was working in the Fresno, California office as a
sales representative for Redwood products in central California.
In 1976 he moved to Arcata, California to manage the company’s
recently purchased manufacturing facility. During his tenure
at Arcata, Bob was responsible not only for purchasing all
raw material for the plant, but also the expansion of the
sales of Redwood products to wholesale distributors throughout
the US and Canada, as well as developing increased sales volumes
into export markets in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
In 1981 Bob supervised an extensive modernization of the manufacturing
facility by adding planning, molding and bevel siding capabilities.
This project turned what was a processing facility for rough
kiln dried lumber, into a state of the art plant with the
capability of producing sidings, patterns, and other specialty
products. In 1983 Bob was named President of the company,
which now included a wholesale distribution division in Broomfield,
Colorado. When it was determined in the mid 1990’s that
the resource to feed the manufacturing facility was in decline,
Bob supervised the phasing out and sale of the Arcata plant
in order to focus on the distribution business, which now
included a yard in Bend, Oregon. The Minnesota division of
the distribution system was added in 2000.
Bob continues to work at the corporate office in Bend, Oregon
and is deeply committed to the 55-year-old family business
and its many employees, customers and vendors. Bob’s
son, Robert S. Reid, is currently working for the company
in the Broomfield, Colorado division nothing would make all
the Reid’s happier than to see a fourth generation Reid
in the future of the company. Bob and his wife Kathie are
celebrating 31 years of marriage and have two children (Kristi
and Bobby) and a 2-year-old granddaughter (Amaya). Golf, travel,
and visiting the “kids”, keep the family occupied.
